ATTENTION! On Monday, May 2nd, the 4th grade teachers hosted a Boot Camp to review and practice for the upcoming STAAR tests. The teachers served as "sergeants" while students were the "soldiers" at this interactive event. Students worked in "platoons" to complete a variety of boot camp activities. Some of the activities included army crawl, rock climbing, limbo, shirt folding, cup stacking, and more. After tackling each physical activity, students' minds were challenged with STAAR questions for both reading and math. They recorded answers on a "dog tag"; several students received prizes for their hard work! The students enjoyed both the physical and academic tasks in this engaging review. The event helped put all the students "at ease"; they are certainly ready to tackle the STAAR!

5th grade students stayed for two additional hours after school for our STAAR Boot Camp. We started in the classroom by doing fun exercises to warm up. Students then marched down the hall to our outdoor location. The 5th grade students were divided into groups and were given math and science STAAR like questions. After each question was completed and verified that it was correct, they were given an activity to complete before getting the next question. Most of the activities were exercises, but the exception was their favorite. Each team was given a ball. They had to put the ball in the basket using their feet only. The kids loved it! If the answer was incorrect, the group had to do 5 push ups before trying again. We finished with a game of Kahoot on multiplication fact fluency. Each student was given a dog tag upon the completion of our Boot Camp.
