The 5th grade hall was transformed into 5 different states; New York, Colorado, Texas, Arizona, and Hawaii. We had sounds from each state playing on the BenQ so the kids could get a feel for each location. Each teacher had 4 challenges related to the content that they teach. Students were given road blocks and detours to complete before they received their next challenge. Examples of detours and road blocks; eat "beach balls" until you find the cup with the smiley face, complete 50 push ups or 100 jumping jacks as a team, do a Fortnite dance for 15 seconds, eat a cup of jello using a straw, and draw a crab or fish using hand print. (I will ask the team for some of their road blocks and detours). We had 20 groups with one student from each class. We did this activity for 3 full days and 1 half day. Students arrived in the morning, ate breakfast, and read the passage for the day. They then rotated throughout the different states during the whole instructional time frame for the day.
