The elementary schools of Castleberry ISD were pleased to host children’s author, Jacqueline Davies, on April 6th. The teacher-librarians read a sampling of the author’s books in advance of the visit. The author visited each elementary school and did a presentation on her book “The Boy Who Drew Birds” which is the true story of famed painter John James Audubon. She also read a “Panda Pants” another favorite book of CISD students during her presentation. Students were thrilled to have her autograph books at the presentation’s conclusion. The teacher-librarians are very happy to be able to motivate students in reading and writing. “Anytime we can connect with an author in person or over Skype; students want to read more than before. It is wonderful to see students wanting to read what they have been exposed to in the library.”” says, Kelly Shelton, teacher-librarian at Castleberry Elementary School. Third grade teacher, Mrs. Tiffany Hazard, reported “Our students enjoyed this special event in the library and we love having special events like this that motivate students!” Second grade teacher, Ms. Contello, said “My students loved it and so did I.”
